Ok I just got the livejournal app on my iPhone. So cool. I don't need to log in on my lappie anymore. Which makes it quite scary actually. If you think bout it, one day we don't need our laptops anymore. Why would you need one if everything is accessible through your teeny phone, that fits into or pocket as comfortably as a lollipop? Scary shite.

So May is in Perth, having the road trip of her life. I wanna be there too! Always wanted to drive on the right side of the road.

So tempted to rebond my hair! But I like tying my hair. In dilemma. I asked the hair god and he said no way chica! Keep ur hair as it is. Argh. I'm using a comb after years. So not used to that.

Ok so it's back to school after 2 days of workshop. Back to the craziness. Which I so love. Totally.

I was quite apprehensive, letting the kids go out all alone with their China buddies to tour Deyang for the whole day. This was the only time they were going to be away from out eyes, our reach if anything were to happen. But, at the end of the day, all of them came back safe and in one piece. Most importantly, they all came back with huge smiles plastered on their faces. They had plenty of stories to share.. from Macdonalds, to 3 storey bungalows, to going to the arcade, to Muslim grandparents. Im sure they learnt alot and this is smth that they will rmbr for a long time to come. One thing that i would say that stood out was the warmth and hospitality that they received from their Chinese friends. How the parents brought them shopping, how they ensured that our singaporean students were safe all the time, and how they always wanted them to have fun. This is definitey smth to think about. Will we singaporeans ever exhibit that kinda hospitality? If we had to spend a day with someone we totally did not know, would we emerge as friends after that. Maybe we are not there yet but its definitely something to think about.

So, while the kids were out having fun running around town, we teachers had to host the lunch for the Chinese vice principles and teachers. A total of about 6 people turned up plus our  teachers. We had a private room to ourselves and once we sat down, the food started coming in. Then they asked for water. Their 'water' turned out to be wine. Wow, how thirst quenching. Of cos, me and Mr A didnt drink and we had to explain to them why. They kept clinking glasses and toasting and thanking us for our relationship with them and to hope more to come. Drinking is fine, im okay with that. What im not okay with was when they took out their ciggies and started puffing in that enclosed room. Ugh. If there is one thing im allergic to, its ciggarettes. I cant stand the smell of it and my throat acts up really fast. Once the ciggies came out, my appetite went down the drain Faster than you can say ciggie. I put my fork down and jus drank my tea. Its obviously a culture here to drink and smoke at meal times. An act of courtesy if you can call it. So, we have to accomodate i guess.. Ugh but that was a lunch i hated.

True enough, when i went back to the hotel, my throat was already acting up. We went shopping for a while around the area while waiting for the kids to come back. Managed to get a couple of stuff for my family. Strange enough, im not missing home. Yet.

Today is the day! The day i get to see live pandas! Not that i have not seen them before but i havent seen one in the flesh. We obviously cant touch them but heck it! We get to see them like 20 metres away. So we had to get up extra early today. Cos apparently Pandas will fall asleep if we get there too late. So we had to be down for breakfast at 630 so that we could leave by 7am. you know what? i have never eaten so much toasted bread in my life before. I have been eating 2 slices of toast with warm orange juice (wth?) everyday for 5 days now. Exciting rite? I know.

It was bout an hour bus ride to the Panda Base. When we were there, it was freeeeekin cold. Wish i brought an extra jacket. Sue, i love you but your coat is absolutely to the shatsolutely useless. My Adidas works so much more better. But i was wearing my OS2 jacket and forgot my orange Adi. Oh wells. So anyhoos, the kids went in to clean the Panda enclosure and feed the pandas in groups while the teachers walked around the base. There was this long stretch of path tat we had to take and that was tiring. Exercising in that cold weather in a definite no way. The air is so thin that if i sprinted, i probably would have dropped dead and died. But Pandas, oh gosh they are so kewt. Jus to carry them and touch them you had to pay like 1600 yuan. Madness. Then we went to watch a video on how they breed pandas. 3 ways. Natural breeding, forced breeding and artificial insemination. Cos pandas dont easily breed naturally, they have to try all methods to make sure the species doesnt go extinct. Cant wait to have our own pandas in the Zoo. Im sure when they breed it will appear on the front page of our newspapers.

I would add photos here but i cant remember my Photobucket account password. So just wait for Facebook!

I havent had time to go shopping yet. Will go soon!

So that day there was this guy who gave a lecture on the ancient ruins and artefacts of China. Did you know that the oldest fridge in the world belongs China? This means that the first people to invent the refrigerator were the Chinese. Now that i didnt know. So we went to the Musuem today and saw plenty of artefacts. Cool ones. We saw Jade, Gold, Bronze and i remember looking at many many masks. But the one thing that stood out was the fact that they believed in a higher power way before. Thanks Mr A for that wonderful insight. You paid more attention to the tour than me. You see, all these artefacts that were collected were gathered from ancient sacrificial sites. Where people sacrificed each other to appease the Gods. Scary but interesting. I loved their money tree though. That was the only thing i recognized out of everything. And their nine layer tree looked so climbable. Not that i can climb trees.

Oh gosh, my hands are so cold i cant even type this properly. I tangoed with my sister today and i saw Baby Raquib! oh how i miss that tiny tot. Miss the way he runs like a duck whenever i come home, miss how he pulls my pants asking me to carry him. Miss his toothless smile. Okay 4 front teeth is not considered teeth. Miss his baby smell. Cant wait to hug him again.

All is well here in China. Its day 4. 10 more days to go!
28th-Feb-2012 03:24 pm - Signing ceremony
rihanna
So, its Day 3 here in Deyang. It's too cold for my liking. It rained this morning..making it even even colder. As if 6 degrees was not bad enough rite, it had to go all the way down to 4 degrees. Had to wear formal today. Usually i prefer skirts with my formal shirts but wearing the skirts i usually do here would be a bit crazy. Anyways, the mayor came and so did the city's reporters. It was in full force. The signing was done, speeches were made, gifts were exchanged, photos were taken and it was all done. There was a live feed of the signing ceremony here to Outram.. so the principal could see it.

Then when all was over, someone came up with this cray idea to take a photo at the school gate. Usually im okay with it.. but i was not looking forward to standing out there in the freezing cold and hear my teeth chatter while photos were taken. So we were out there arranging ourselves when suddenly this guy grabbed my hand and pulled me. Normally, i would have scratched his eyes out for number 1: touching me and numbr 2: pulling me. But its a very touchy culture here. People hold hands, hug and put their arms around each other very normally. I nicely shrugged him off and gave him the "im-being-very-nice-so-pls-dont-touch-me-again look". He seemed to have gotten it and let go. So we took a few photos outside and went back in for lessons.

Then after lunch we had sports. But one of the girls wasnt feeling too well so i stayed with her in the hotel and waited for everyone to come back. Then we had the city tour. That was hilarious cos when th guide started talking, every one fell asleep. so she stopped and we jus went to dinner.

Many more cold days to come. Brrr...
27th-Feb-2012 08:50 pm - China Day 2
chique

Ok so it’s like this. Last night was not so bad. It wasn’t too cold. Managed to sleep quite well probably cos I was already tired. But when I got up this morning, nobody told me it was going to be 4 degrees! That is friggin cold. So breakfast was just toasted bread. Fine by me. When we stepped outta the hotel, we realized it was cold! Supa dupa cold. Till we were breathing out mist. That’s the first.

Today’s lesson was fun. We played the Pyramid Game and still managed to complete the lesson. Ooh yeah, Deyang No.5 Middle School has a population of 5000 students. We at Outram only have 1000 max. Their morning assembly was so orderly even though it was a huge crowd. While we were freezing standing at attention, they were proudly singing their national anthem. I pity our Outramians. All they had was the OS2 sweater. So we went back to get more clothes. Obviously shows how we Singaporeans are not prepared for the ice age. If it ever comes. We would still be standing outside our houses in shorts and tank tops. And then freeze to death. End of story.

So the food today was good. Better than yesterday for sure. And we had French fries for dinner! When the kids saw French fries, it was like heaven for them. All the fries were off the plate in less than 10 secs flat. Amazing. And I ate some Ox’s tongue. Thanks ah fool. I won’t forget. Revenge is sweet.

I had so many complaints for 2/1 math today. And early in the morning somemore.. U guys are lucky I’m not there. Or you would have an earful. Wait till I return. Be prepared.

Now I’m exhausted. And cold. Time to sleep. Tmr is another long day.
25th-Feb-2012 11:54 pm - China, here i come!
Ok. I just finished packing my stuff for China. Seriously, i hate packing to the macking. Each time i have to pack i wish i could hire someone to do it for me. While i sit and watch. But then again, i hate people touching my things. Im so fussy i know. Booey.

I'm so touched by the many people who msged/whatsapped/wrote on my FB wall to say they will miss me when im away. You know wat? I never thought i would say this but i will miss my 2/1 terribly. I know i scream at them at times, but i will so miss seeing them for so long. I will always wonder whether Daniel is changing seats or if JT is screaming across the classroom or if Chenyu is crushing yellow forms or if Dean is throwing paper balls or if Ginny is msging in class.. Sigh.. But it will be a good break away from school. To be in a totally foreign nation where everybody looks the same. Good luck to me.

I will be updating regularly. Sucks not having access to Facebook :( i cant stalk people. Lets jus hope my phone bill doesnt reach 500 bucks this time. Singtel should not earn my money.

Arghh my camera! i cant find it! Nehminds, i shall steal a camera somewhere.

I really hope i havent forgotten anything. Im so paranoid that i will reach China and suddenly remember that i forgot to pack something. Irritatings.

Xoxo,
Ms Zai

Omg. Last entry was in 2010. Now its already 2012!

Where have i been the past year? Well, life just got pretty interesting. 2011 was a year of ups and downs. It started off great, then didn't go too well. But i cant say that i'm not happy. For one thing, i can type this without looking at the keyboard anymore. This skill took me ten years to master. This is what happens when you are forced to spend 3/4 of your day pounding on the keyboard.

Anyways back to bizness. My head aches. I think its cos i need new specs. Will get them soon. 2011. A year of love, work, scandals and heartbreaks. Each and every one of them i needed to be where i am today. I learnt a few things, and lost the biggest puzzle of my life.

Strangely though, i dont feel the pain as much as i shud. Which makes me think. Was i ever into it in the first place. Or was it out of sympathy. You know wat? I dont care anymore because its over. And thinking about it only make me more stressed. Damn you headache.

2012 is a year of opportunities. Its a year to prove my worth. To climb higher up that ladder.  I wont have humanities as the not so well performing subject every O level result day. Im sick of it. Humanities better produce as good results as Math or POA. Im gonna change that.

2012 is also a year to spend more time with my friends. Seeing as to how i see them once every 6 mths. Its protected time. Time where i will not get into a relationship. Its about time i put time aside for myself.

Live, Laugh and Love for 2012. Bring it on.
